Laurence Owen was born in Gloucestershire in 1984. He Studied at Falmouth
College of Arts, Cornwall from 2002-2005.

Owen produces purposefully naïve and colourful work, (a reference to folk art)
but beyond its childlike appearance lie subtle, dark undertones. Its this idea
of lulling the viewer into an initial false sense of security, This very process
of realising the work is not entirely what it seems, becomes the work itself –
the process of realisation handed over to the onlooker.

While predominantly a painter Owen also works with film and animation. He
considers this a continuation of his stilled images – seeing the films as a
moving painting.

Owen’s Exhibitions include Mills Gallery, Gloucestershire, 2002; Falmouth Arts
Centre, 2004; Falmouth College Of Arts, 2005; Sancreed House Gallery, Penzance,
2005; The Boundary Gallery, London, 2005; The New York International Independent
Film and Video Festival, 2006 and The Damien Hirst Murderme Collection, ‘In The
Darkest Hour There May Be Light’ The Serpentine Gallery, London 2006-7.
